Kaziranga National Park: Kaziranga National Park is a must visit for anyone who visits Assam. Famous for the one horned rhinos, Kaziranga is now also a tiger reserve and the number of tigers have risen in the past couple of years. You can feel experience nature closely, with the Jeep Safaris which are the most common. The elephant safaris are also very popular but booking must be done well in advance otherwise it is difficult to obtain the elephant rides. Whichever you choose, you will definitely spot rhinos, tigers, buffalos, deer and many exotic birds. It is especially exciting when your guide will spot the tracks of a tiger and follow its trail to catch a glimpse of it. Be sure to carry binoculars and hats, as the days can get really sunny in the afternoons. Spread across the floodplains of the Brahmaputra River, its forests, wetlands and grasslands are home to tigers, elephants and the world’s largest population of Indian one-horned rhinoceroses. Ganges River dolphins swim in the park’s waters. It’s visited by many rare migratory birds, and gray pelicans roost near Kaziranga village.
Umiam Lake: Surrounded by hills on all sides and lined by striking roadways and bridges, the Blue waters of the Umiam Lake is one of the reasons why the Guwahati-Shillong route is one of the most scenic in the region
Cherrapunjee: Cherrapunjee means "Land of Oranges". Cherrapunjee or Sohra is home to beautiful waterfalls, caves, living root bridges and other stuning natural attractions. Cherrapunjee has the only Double-Decker Root Bridge in Asia. It takes hundreds of years of training the tree root by the locals from different generations so that it forms a bridge over the course of time.
Mawlynnong: Have you ever wanted to visit a green village that is also extremely clean? With its greenery and exquisite biodiversity, the Mawlynnong Village in Meghalaya is the first place that comes to mind. Also known as God's Own Garden, the alluring Mawlynnong village has received a title of being the cleanest village in Asia! Dawki: Umngot River, also known as Dawki Lake, is touted as the cleanest river in Asia. It flows through the Mawlynnong village in Meghalaya. The clear emerald green and crystal blue water of the Umngot River looks absolutely divine. Dawki Lake is so clear and pristine that even rocks, pebbles and fish swimming in it can be seen clearly. The boats look as if they are floating on a crystal glass surface.
Laitlum Canyon: Laitlum translates to ‘end of hills’ and this sublimely beautiful hilltop appears to be true to its name. At Laitlum, all one can see are breathtaking gorges and steep winding stairways that snake their way down to the lush valley. The scenic hill slopes of Laitlum are often called the amphitheatre of Meghalaya. Unending as far as one can see, they are painted in a multitude of hues – from earthy browns and verdant greens to blushing reds at dawn and dusk.
Kamakhya temple:The Kamakhya Temple is a Hindu temple at Nilachal hills in Guwahati, Assam. Dedicated to the mother goddess Kamakhya, it is one of the oldest and most revered centres of Tantric practices.
